The official opening of the UNEC Zagatala Branch took place on 15 September 2016.
The Branch was founded with the aim of meeting the demand for highly qualified specialists to support the socio-economic development of the regions, expanding access to quality higher education for young people living in regional areas in their chosen fields of study, and increasing the efficiency of using the existing material, technical, and human resources of higher education institutions.
Currently, a total of 1,683 students are enrolled at the Branch, including 1,195 full-time students and 488 part-time students. In 2025, 352 students were admitted to the Branch. The maximum admission score for the Branch was 464.

This, in turn, prepares graduates professionally for holding responsible positions in enterprises and organizations. Structurally, the Branch includes the Department of Economics and Management, the Secretariat, the Finance and Supply Unit, and the Administrative Services Unit. The Department of Economics and Management comprises the Economics and Management Division and the Technical and Technological Division.
